Towers & Bridges

Towers and Bridges Activity

The children were split into two age groups, and each group spending an hour on each activity.

Design a Tower

The challenge to design a tower allowed the children to work with various craft mediums, either drawing or making a 2D picture, or building a 3D model using playdough and straws.  Fancy a go yourself?  The record was 3 stories (without sticking the playdough to the cupboard!).

Build a Bridge

Can you build a load supporting bridge from nothing but newspaper and sticky tape? the older children built to support a can of beans, the younger ones made a bridge to drive a toy car across. Every one succeeded! We saw all sorts of bridge including an inclined tube/tunnel, truss reinforced, beam and sling, and an ingenious tensioned sheet design.
